After appointed as honorary director of Qingdao IOT Applied Technology Academy on its opening ceremony on July 12, Academician Yao went to QTC in the afternoon and gave a lecture themed with IOT to the college's teachers and students.

Before his lecture, QTC held a special ceremony to appoint Academician Yao as Advisor to the college.

Yao's lecture, titledChinese Smart Cities Construction and IOT Development, focused on the relation between smart cities and IOT, and the key elements and factors for constructing smart cities. He also briefly introduced IOT in terms of its framework, technologies and cloud computing etc.

Secretary Liu Pengzhao, in his talk, thanked Yao for his excellent speech, which, according to him, benefited him greatly either in terms of specialized knowledge or in terms of life experiences, and hoped Academician Yao gave more guidance and help to the college's IOT work.

Born in 1939, Yao Jianquan is now Professor of Tianjin University and he was selected as Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. Specialized in the research of Laser and NOL Frequency Conversion Technology, Yao was once invited to give lectures or do cooperative researches in USA, UK, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Taiwan etc. (By Li Chengji)
