Dr. Donald J. Newport, the former president of Michigan Alpena Community College of the USA, was appointed as a QTC professor during his recent special visit to the college.

An Appointment Ceremony
President Dr. Shi Zhongjian presented the appointment letter to him on the appointment ceremony held on April 5th.
In his lecture titledThe Comparison of American Community Colleges with China Vocational Collegesthat followed, Professor Donald firstly introduced his own community college study and work career in a humorous manner, and then he briefed the US community colleges in terms of their history, system, administration mode, and programs etc. Lastly, he compared the two countries' vocational education from the aspects of developing phases, influences, curriculum, cooperation with industries and governments, teaching and students etc.

Prof. Donald's Lecture
Prof. Donald's lecture was responded with bursts of claps.
Vice President Kong Xiansi summarized his lecture. He said the lecture let us know more about the constructive and practical experience of American community college system, learn the differences between the two countries, and render us much to rethink how to construct Chinese vocational education system and how to do our own work, study and research.

A Talk
During his visit, Dr. Shi also held a special talk with Dr. Donald, focusing on the issues pertinent to the vocational education in the two countries. The two doctors exchanged their opinions on teaching expertise, labor market, continuous education and entrepreneurship education etc. Dr. Donald spoke highly of QTC in its hospitality and expertise, especially its close relationship with the local communities and open up to the world.
