October, 2011, Qingdao Technical College held ceremony to observe its 60th anniversary. Leaders of MOE, provincial and municipal governments respectively congratulated the college via letters or presence to the congratulatory activities. Qingdao Mayor Xia Geng, along with the leaders of provincial Education Dept and municipal government presented the ceremony. Some QTC’s international partners Hacettepe University of Turkey, Inha Technical College of Korea, UNESCO College-Industry Cooperation Chair and ICLON, Leiden University of the Netherlands also attended the celebration. Over 400 alumni reps returned to the college to join in the joyful activities with over 10,000 of their younger schoolmates.

Celebration Ceremony
Over 60 years development, QTC, both a provincial and national exemplary vocational college, has highlighted its rule and position in the local economic development and social progress by actively exerting its educational strengths to adjust to the local requirements. As commented in the congratulatory letters, the college sticks to the cooperation with enterprises and industries to enhance its mode of work-integrated learning, and incessantly deepens its teaching and training reform to have fostered its own featured vocational education mode. Mr. Li Qun, Secretary of CPC Qingdao Committee, in his congratulation letter, positively appraised its achievements in vocational education and also hoped it to start its new journey for a more splendid target to build itself into a world featured top-class college.

In his speech, President Dr. Shi Zhongjian, on behalf of over 10,000 teaching staff and students, expressed his welcome and gratitude to the guests present and the leaders at all levels, partners, international friends, and the counterpart colleges who had cared and supported QTC. He also gave his congratulations and compliments to all the alumni and his hard-working colleagues. With four acknowledgement bows, Dr. Shi paid his heartfelt tributes to all of them. He reviewed QTC’s development since 1951, and owed the progress and glory to the great support of Qingdao Municipal Government. For the future further development, he showed great confidence in his college’s competency.

At the Practical Training and Technical Museum
After the ceremony, Mayor Xia Geng inspected the college’s practical training centers, listened to the working report, and talked with teachers and students. He encouraged them to do more for an even better prospect. The correct orientation, distinguished feature, and an international perspective would be vital for educating the qualified innovative skilled talents for the society, he said.

The History Museum
On the same day, QTC also opened its new history museum, Tao Xingzhi Commemoration Hall, the first of its kind in HVE colleges for the great educator, and a smile face wall. Symposiums of the retired cadres, western alliance colleges and the alumni were also held on the day.
