On October 8, teachers and students of School of Software and Service Outsourcing (SSSO) had spontaneously held a special seminar to celebrate the life of Steve Jobs, the co-founder of the Apple Inc., who died of respiratory arrest resulting from pancreatic cancer at his home on October 5. Led by Vice Dean of SSSO Meng Xianning, the seminar reviewed Jobs' occupation as a high-tech entrepreneur and the Apple spirit he had fostered.
On another seminar held two days later on October 10, President Shi Zhongjian, responded to the speakers by sharing his own perspectives of life philosophies on how to properly handle with difficulties confronted, and emphasized two important elements making people immensely different: virtue and devotion. Lastly, in his talk, President Shi said the commemoration was far more than mourning of the loss of a giant; instead, the motives behind were what we really should chase, and asked the whole college to hold more such activities in various forms. Jobs’ life attitude to difficulties, unceasing creativity and innovation had led to his great success, and we should provide more space with our students for creation and innovation as well, he further noted. “I completely believe among our students, we will have our own Jobs”.
